Cam Whitmore of the Houston Rockets is looking to make waves in his rookie year.

In a new video shared by NBACentral, Whitmore reveals the NBA stars who have inspired him and shaped his style of play. Initially modeling his game after Russell Westbrook, he now compares his playing style to Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics, showcasing his versatility and adaptability.

Although Whitmore has yet to play in a regular-season game, his performance in the Summer League displayed his immense promise and skill. Across his five games, he averaged an impressive 20.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 3 steals per night.

In his final summer game, Whitmore put up an outstanding stat line of 25 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who witnessed his talent. As a result, he was rightfully crowned the Summer League MVP.

However, this achievement was particularly significant for Whitmore, considering the challenging draft process he endured just weeks before. Many anticipated him being selected within the top five or ten players in June’s draft, but he ultimately became the 20th overall pick, chosen by the Rockets.

The Rockets recognized Whitmore as a steal in the draft, while Whitmore saw the team as an opportunity to prove himself and silence any doubts. Although concerns about his health caused him to slide down in the draft, his performance in the Summer League demonstrated his readiness and physical fitness.

With the Summer League MVP trophy in hand and a determined mindset, Whitmore is poised to become a breakout rookie in the upcoming 2023-24 season. Keep an eye out for his electrifying performances and expect him to leave a lasting impact on the NBA.
